Grant Writing

Grant Writing

Grants are an immense source of funding for many organizations. And they are also very time consuming to write. Jenna Felder, LLC, has had significant success with the grant writing process; and it is a process that takes time and a keen skill set not only for writing, but also for organization and tenacity.

We include the following services when we work with an organization to secure grant funding:

  • Status check on documentation needed
  • Organization research
  • Budget review and coordination
  • Narrative development
  • Consensus on measurable outcomes

Our experience is with grant proposals both large and small. Below is a sample of grants we have written and submitted for in recent years:

  • Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg
  • City of St. Petersburg Arts & Culture
  • Florida Division of Cultural Affairs/Culture Builds Florida
  • Lightning Hero Award
  • United Way Suncoast
  • Juvenile Welfare Board Pinellas
  • City of St. Petersburg Education and Entrepreneurship Training Program
  • Arthur Family Foundation

Special Events

Special Events

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, special events are an integral part of an organization’s portfolio. Luckily, we fall more on the side of “love ‘em” when it comes to the planning and execution of events.

One of the best take-aways from my time at USF working for President Judy Genshaft was her strategy that fundraisers aren’t event planners and event planners aren’t fundraisers. You can’t be executing the details of an event while at the same time raising money for your organization. They are two different things and often times are two different skill sets. Fundraising is about relationship building; special events are about executing the details and remaining calm under pressure.

If you need more time with your donors and less time with your event planning, we can help. We have expertise and relationships in all aspects of event planning including:

  • Venue selection
  • Contract negotiation
  • Print materials
  • Script writing
  • Event décor
  • Live and silent auctions
  • Guest registration
  • Briefing documents
  • Committee liaison and support
  • Volunteer Management

Database Management
and Donor Cultivation

Database Management

You’re only as good as your data. So if you’re planning some type of annual giving ask (including special events) within your organization and you don’t have good data, you’re only doing yourself a disservice. Did you know that if you don’t thank an annual donor in a timely manner and then ultimately lose them, it takes two years to get them back? Did you know that most donors say that the reason they don’t give to an organization a second time is because they are not asked? Cultivating donors is about building relationships; and you need to have up-to-date data to know who donated to your organization, when and why. For these reasons, we can help with:

  • Database review
  • Recommendations for new software
  • Data management and inputting of names, donations, coding, etc.
  • Running reports
  • Mailings and mail merges
  • Letter writing including annual appeals and thank you letters

Technology
Review

Technology Review

Our team wants to help streamline your technology so your time is being used as efficiently as possible and your costs are being managed effectively. We have relationships with local technology experts that can help with the following:

  • Website hosting
  • Website design
  • Social media set up
  • Password management

Strategic Planning

Strategic Planning

There are many sayings we have heard over the years that represent our mission to help organizations with strategic planning. Two of our favorites are "Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail" and "Work Smart Not Hard." Strategic planning is really the heartbeat of an organization. We work with board members and staff to develop annual plans that include many components including:

  • Special Events
  • Annual Giving
  • Board Giving
  • Grants
  • Communications

Without a plan to tackle the day-to-day operations, organizations get stuck in the cycle of trying anything and everything just to see what sticks. The time it takes to put a strategic plan together will benefit not only immediate needs, but also the long term success of the organization.

Special Projects

Special Projects

If there are projects your organization has wanted to tackle but has not had the time to do so, we can help. Here are just a few of the special projects we have helped clients with:

  • Board retreats
  • Surveying various audiences (i.e. volunteers, donors)
  • Search engine optimization and website strategy
  • Mobile Bidding
  • Online Auctions

We enjoy tackling the things that often get pushed aside because a lack of time, but are so important to the success of an organization.

About Jenna

About Jenna

A native of Florida, Jenna grew up in Pinellas County and attended the University of South Florida and Florida Atlantic University earning Bachelors and Masters degrees in communication. With a desire to make a difference upon graduating, she started her journey working for non-profit organizations with the American Cancer Society where she managed Relay For Life and the Reach to Recovery Fashion Show. Serving her Tampa alma mater followed, where she had the pleasure of working as the Director of Special Events & Ceremonies for President Judy Genshaft for nearly 9 years. USF was also a learning space for Development and working with Foundations.

A desire for something different resulted in a move to St. Petersburg in 2011, where she has had the privilege of working with organizations that make tremendous impacts in the community including the Morean Arts Center and Boys & Girls Clubs of The Suncoast. Time spent working for Progress Energy afforded her the opportunity to be on the grant-making side of the aisle where she learned about leadership development, corporate culture and communications, and how large companies provide much-needed dollars to support their local communities. She is passionate about helping organizations tell their story in an authentic and organized way.

In 2013, after being diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 38, she decided it was time for a lifestyle change. She now works to carve her own niche in the community by helping organizations lay strategic frameworks for long term success by providing what so many organizations need …. another set of eyes/hands/brain to help dig into the day-to-day work, move the needle and just generally get stuff done.

Jenna lives in St. Petersburg with her boyfriend, Gavin and their dog, Riley. She is a graduate of Leadership St. Pete Class of 2011. In her free time, Jenna takes classes at American Stage and is a member of the local long-form improv comedy team, As Per Usual.
